HELLO MY BEAUTIES. Brace yourselves, you are in for a LOT of fangirling and flailing and probably just flopping around on the ground because I just lkj ljoejilsijelijlijLIJLIJÖEOIJSLIJE. Ahem.
I FINISHED SIX OF CROWS FINALLY. It killed me that it took so long, but here I am, all glowing and warm. May I just start with Bless you Kaz and your broken spirit!?!?!?! I just wanted to take him under my wing and keep him forever and tell everyone he is MINE AND YOU CAN’T HAVE HIM. He is so deliciously evil and does some terrible things but then we are shown how squishy he actually is inside and I wasn’t expecting it and I shed a tear or two for that poor bastard.
Curse you and bless you, Leigh Bardugo, for creating such immaculate characters. I have the FEELS FOR ALL OF THEM.
Let’s talk about the amazing things in this worship-worthy work of art:
This is an epic fantasy about a GANG, people. Does it get much more badass than that? I think not. It is so intricate and well thought out that sometimes I just sat there thinking that Ketterdam MUST EXIST SOMEWHERE because how can someone make up something SO REAL OMG?
The diversity of the characters, like WUT. Nina is a heartrender (which is awesome in and of itself) but she also knows how to heal, tailor and IT IS EPIC. Also she has got some mad womanly wiles, which she is NOT shy about using for the advantage of the crew. GO NINA.
Wylan is a soft little cucumber who is surprisingly good at building bombs??? Who saw that coming? We didn’t get to know him very well in Six of Crows but I am counting on more Wylan in Crooked Kingdom (YES I ALREADY STARTED IN CASE YOU WERE WONDERING).
Jesper. Oh, Jesper and his precious guns. He is all spunk and attitude and the best sharpshooter in town. Also he’s a chronic gambler but, I mean, we all have our flaws. #noonesperfect
Matthias. He is just so HATE-ABLE. But only for, what, most of the book? By the end you will learn to love him OR I WILL FORCE YOU TO BECAUSE, UM I AM THE QUEEN, OBVIOUSLY. Anyways. He was raised to hate and kill Grisha (AKA NINA) but then !!!Nina saves his life!!!! So he can’t REALLY hate her.
INEJ. She is also a squishy cucumber of feels. Though she is a little too obsessed with her saints for my taste, I do think it is pretty darn glorious that she named her knives after them. GLORIOUS, DAGNABIT. Also I was shipping her and Kaz SO HARD even though I know I shouldn’t be BECAUSE IT IS IMPOSSIBLE BASICALLY
Last, but not least, KAZ. OMG KAZ. I want to take him and protect him from the harshness of the world. Scratch a man’s eyeball out and throw him in the ocean? YES HE DEFINITELY NEEDS PROTECTING DEFINITELY.
Have I mentioned that there is very satisfying revenge? No? WELL I JUST DID. This is not a fairy tale book, where the princess is morally required to let her evil stepmother go. No. There is revenge, and IT IS BEAUTIFUL OMG. Well, basically Kaz’s whole life is about revenge, but I would say that Nina and Inej get their fair share of revenge as well.
The impossible heist. And when I say impossible, I mean impossible, I mean it truly and wholly. Also this book is just plain #stressful. EVERYTHING THAT COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG GOES WRONG. I was literally starting to bite my fingernails again. I was sure they were never going to get out of that Fjerdan prison, and then WUT Kaz uses their own god against them? #ouch. But also GO KAZ obviously.
So basically, if you haven’t read SIX OF CROWS shame on you what are you still doing here go get it and read it immediately!!
So tell me. WHO ELSE LOVES SIX OF CROWS (spoiler: I DOOOOO)???? Tell me all and everything that you love love loooooved about it. Also fangirling over Kaz is welcome.
