The dream chooses the dreamer, not the other way around - and Lazlo Strange, war orphan and junior librarian, has always feared that his dream chose poorly. Since he was five years old he's been obsessed with the mythic lost city of Weep, but it would take someone bolder than he to cross half the world in search of it. Then a stunning opportunity presents itself, in the person of a hero called the Godslayer and a band of legendary warriors, and he has to seize his chance to lose his dream forever. What happened in Weep two hundred years ago to cut it off from the rest of the world? What exactly did the Godslayer slay that went by the name of god? And what is the mysterious problem he now seeks help in solving? The answers await in Weep, but so do more mysteries - including the blue-skinned goddess who appears in Lazlo's dreams. How did he dream her before he knew she existed? And if all the gods are dead, why does she seem so real? In this sweeping and breathtaking new novel by National Book Award finalist Laini Taylor, author of the New York Times bestselling Daughter of Smoke & Bone trilogy, the shadow of the past is as real as the ghosts who haunt the citadel of murdered gods. Fall into a mythical world of dread and wonder, moths and nightmares, love and carnage.

Okay first of all EXCUSE ME WHILE I AM DUMBSTRUCK but also can I please have a refund for my ruined soul?

This book started out intriguing. And then it got better. And BETTER.

And then everything got all mixed up and I’m still not sure what happened because I think Laini made a lot of typos there at the end??? Like. Someone should go and fix that last bit because I am in shocked denial.
Not that I wasn’t warned.
But still.

I honestly only have good things to say about this incredibly magical book:

-Lazlo Strange. The main character gives the title infinite amounts of meaning once you know that HE is the Dreamer. THE PERFECTION. He is relatable and not ridiculously handsome and not perfect. He is me. He is YOU. He is a boy with wild dreams and fantasies that are considered foolish by grumpy old grown ups who don’t know what fun is. HOW MANY OF YOU CAN RELATE because I sure can.

-The writing gods have obviously smiled upon Laini because her use of words is like a waterfall. Smooth and graceful and poetic yet full of purpose and absolutely not superfluous, JUST LIKE THIS SENTENCE. Also it hits you rudely in the face when you stick your head in it and horrible things happen in gorgeous writing. WOT. JUST. HAPPENED.

-can we please acknowledge those stunning blue pages 😍 I mean come on?????? The cover is gorgeous and that gold and then you turn it around and BAM. SLAYED.

-the godspawn and the humans. How is it possible to be so fully immersed in both sides of the story?? There is so much that is unfair and unjust but it is somehow justified in a way that makes you understand both sides and….SJSUIWGSKCIDNWLKAGAISV. Torn to the Max here!!

-there is one small thing I need to get off my chest. How unfortunate is this book”s acronym????? Like, I am a lazy typer and Texter and I like to abbreviate but the sheer #awkward of saying “ermegahhhd STD was so good 😍” us just too much for meeeee

I don’t want to say too much or give too much away. All I can say is READ THIS BOOK but also there should be a warning on it that the weak of spirit should maybe wait until at least the second book is out BECAUSE THE WAIT MAY WELL SLAY ME.

Have you read this fabulous book? What did you think about it? Have you read any of Laini Taylor’s other books??
