#1 New York Times Bestseller * An Amazon Best Book of the Year There’s no such thing as safe in a city at war, a city overrun with monsters. In this dark urban fantasy from acclaimed author Victoria Schwab, a young woman and a young man must choose whether to become heroes or villains—and friends or enemies—with the future of their home at stake. The first of two books, This Savage Song is a must-have for fans of Holly Black, Maggie Stiefvater, and Laini Taylor. Kate Harker and August Flynn are the heirs to a divided city—a city where the violence has begun to breed actual monsters. All Kate wants is to be as ruthless as her father, who lets the monsters roam free and makes the humans pay for his protection. All August wants is to be human, as good-hearted as his own father, to play a bigger role in protecting the innocent—but he’s one of the monsters. One who can steal a soul with a simple strain of music. When the chance arises to keep an eye on Kate, who’s just been kicked out of her sixth boarding school and returned home, August jumps at it. But Kate discovers August’s secret, and after a failed assassination attempt the pair must flee for their lives. In This Savage Song, Victoria Schwab creates a gritty, seething metropolis, one worthy of being compared to Gotham and to the four versions of London in her critically acclaimed fantasy for adults, A Darker Shade of Magic. Her heroes will face monsters intent on destroying them from every side—including the monsters within.

Kindly revive me. I cannot even find coherent words right now???
That was…..
That was………..
THAT WAS MAGNIFICENT.
Monsters. ALL THE MONSTERS. We all know all the best stories are dark and full of monsters.
This book, like all of Schwab’s slaying books that I have read, IS PURE GENIUS.
ODOYO DLIVKSIRWOYDODIWPUGLTDI.
The end.

JOKING JOKING. I did warn you I am currently not coherent right???

I love that this book fabulously portrays that monsters aren’t always bad and that some monsters come in the form of humans.
That doing something bad doesn’t automatically make you a bad person.
Action and reaction. Every dark deed creates a monster.

Each and every one of the characters has depth, and I have fallen hopelessly for more than just the main characters as Schwab somehow ALWAYS manages to make me do. HOW. HOW DO YOU DO IT YOU SLY DEVIL???

August Flynn – a Sunai and one of the rarest kind of monsters. The kind that “sings you a song and steals your soul”. THAT IS CORRECT. They eat souls. And they do it beautifully!!! And my softest spot is for this little monster who wants nothing more than to be human. He is so precious to me and SOMEONE PLEASE GIVE HIM A BLANKET AND HOT COCOA THE POOR DEAR.
Kate Harker – the daughter of the baddest man in town, vying for her father’s affections. She is insecure and lost and puts on a brave front just like the best of us on any given day. And also she opens the book by burning down a chapel like on the first page???? Talk about a bold entry!

Ilsa – we don’t see much of August Flynn’s sister, but for some reason I find myself utterly drawn to her. She is beautifully not fully there, and yet somehow the wisest of them all. I hope to see more of her in Our Dark Duet!
Harker – the perfect villain. Easy to hate. Does terrible things.  A perfect example of a monster in a human’s skin.

Also lots of stuff happens!! Like fighting and evil and good and murkiness and so many cute adorable moments. It was also refreshing that there was like no romance???* Honestly my mind has been obliterated by this beauty of a book can someone please scrape up my brains and stuff them back into my skull. Thank you.

This was super short, but NOT TO WORRY. COHERENT REVIEW OF OUR DARK DUET TO COME SOON**

*DID I JUST SAY THAT?? I LOVE ROMANCE???????
**Who am I kidding when have I ever been coherent :,)

Have YOU read This Savage Song??? Are you avoiding it because HYPE?? Are you a fellow Schwabian like me and will just read literally anything she ever writes?????
