Mid-Year Book Freakout Tag

Well hello there my fellow #bookdragons! I’m a bit late to the party* as always BUT I COULDN’T RESIST. ALL THE TAGS OKAY. I stole this from Cait @ Paper Fury because WHO ELSE???
Now to the freaking out: WHAT???????????? THE YEAR IS HALF OVER ALREADY AND I’M 9 BOOKS BEHIND ON MY GOODREADS READING GOAL GODS HELP MEEEEEEE.

Now that we have that out of the way….

*only fashionably, I swear!

The Best Book of the Year So Far

Um. First of all #rude. I am allergic to the words BEST, FAVORITE, and THECHOCOLATEISGONE.
SO there is obviously nothing left to do but to pick MULTIPLE BOOKS because wut are rules.

First, I have to say that I was SUPER DUPER OBSESSED with A Court of Mist and Fury for a minute there. It was my first read of the year. But then I read A Court of Wings and Ruin and it was so meh and there were so many issues that I’m not obsessed anymore? BUT that doesn’t change the fact that I loved ACOMAF!
Then there are books that are simply fabulous.  A Conjuring of Light and This Savage Song. Like. DEAD. I knew it would happen one day if the characters I killed off didn’t come back as ghosts to do me in first!
UM okay and then there was Strange the Dreamer??? I am basically the main character so obviously I loved it.*

*I’M NOT CONCEITED YOU ARE

Best Sequel of the Year So Far

I’m going to have to go with Gemina, people. I KNOW. HOW DID A SCI FI MAKE IT ONTO THIS LIST YOU ASK ME. Well don’t, because I don’t know any better than you!!

I’m like one of Hagrid’s frui cakes – hard and ruthless and I’ll glue your mouth shut if I have to. That being said, I’m the kind of person who laughs in my head. Gemina actually made me laugh out loud??? HOW??????

New Release You Haven’t Read Yet But Want To

Wow that is a really long question/statement/thingy. I’m winded just from typing that! Excuse me while I take a chocolate break.

…..

……….

OKAY I’M BACK.

Um. I’m going to have to say Our Dark Duet because IT’S JUST ARRIVED AND I CAN’T THINK OF ANYTHING ELSE RIGHT NOW I NEED TO DEVOUR IT IMMEDIATELY.

Most Anticipated Release for Autumn/Winter

GODSGRAVE. I’m telling you, I will kill to get my hands on this book.
Luckily I was able to snatch a signed edition with sprayed pages LJOEIHFOEIUGHEUPOFHGRWQIEF(U)?WQ?)WFGIEIHPE’PJWFOQEIHWOHWE*

*I’M NOT EXCITED YOU ARE**
**No, I think this time it might actually be me.

Biggest Disappointment of the Year So Far

UGH. I hate being disappointed it hurts my heart. And also I’m not that fast of a reader so reading books I don’t like feels like a waste????
Here’s a SMOL list of books I was greatly disappointed by:

  • Flame in the Mist. I have never been so bored in my life, I am telling you.
  • Red Queen. Love SQUARES?? That I didn’t even know about until random kissing happened???? #no. Also zero relatability to the characters and what even is the story again???? WHO CAN KNOW.

  • The Name of the Wind. I’M SORRY. So many people loved this book and recommended it to me but like….I felt like there was no story and I was bored. AND I HAVE ONLY A LIMITED NUMBER OF DAYS ON THIS EARTH SO I MOVETH ON.
  • A Court of Wings and Ruin. I know I already said this. I was just so disappointed that I had to mention it again. Haha.

Biggest Surprise of the Year So Far

I think I have to say The Orphan Queen! I bought it partly because of a recommendation but mostly because it’s NOT BLACK under the jacket #shallow. But I ended up really loving the story and the characters! Definitely a happy surprise.
If we are talking negative surprises??? The Night Circus. It was still a beautiful book but it wasn’t at all what the premise made me think it was going to be and I spend the ENTIRE BOOK wondering when the stupid competition was going to begin!

New Favorite Author

After being swept away by Nevernight and The Illuminae Files consecutively how can I NOT say Jay Kristoff? I swear he is secretly a writing god come to teach us all!

Your Newest Favorite Character

CAIT @ PAPER FURY READ MY MIND. Lazlo Strange from Strange the Dreamer because (as I have already humbly pointed out) He is I. We are one and the same. Walking and reading. EATING AND READING (literally my whole family, when we are not trying to kill each other). Books falling on our faces. And basically living in our imaginations instead of in the real world. Soulmates I tell you!!

Book That Made You Cry

I don’t know if shedding a stray tear here and there actually counts as crying??? If so, then that would be Ruin and Rising, and A Conjuring of Light (HOLLAND MY SMOL CINNAMON ROLL SOMEONE GIVE HIM SOME HOT CHOCOLATE AND A PAT ON THE HEAD)!

Book That Made You Happy

Mechanica! Honestly there aren’t enough books out there based on friendship!

Also this might have been the only book I could think of that didn’t have a bittersweet ending or just ended in mass destruction haha.*

*Are we detecting a pattern here??

Most Beautiful Book So Far

It would be immoral for me not to say Strange the Dreamer* Seriously that velvety blue cover with golden foiling and sprayed blue pages and then BLUE NAKED…I drool and then eat the book because I forget it isn’t a blueberry pie.

*HAVE I TALKED ABOUT MY STD ENOUGH????**
**I also like to make inappropriate jokes about the acronym all the time always

What about you? Are you already freaking out about this year ending?? Are you behind on your goal like me?? Also am I #winning at using only GIFS for this post or what?????

  1. I agree that ACOWAR was dissapointing… ACOMAF is by far my favorite SJM book! A Conjuring of Light was SO GOOD! Holland just needs to be wrapped in a blanket and kept away from any sharp objects… I’m thinking I might read Strange the Dreamer soon… everyone seems to love it!

    1. Yeah luckily we are not alone on our ACOWAR pit!! I know a lot of people who were less than thrilled by it 😅 but GSUMDSHTSYIH YAAAS HOLLAND MY BABY he just needs to be loved and taken care of 😭
Yesss Strange the Dreamer is a must read!!

  2. Hearing that you didn’t get into Name of the Wind makes me sad because I loved it, but I totally feel you on Red Queen! I also just kept reading it and thinking “This is basically Hunger Games with super powers…”

    1. I knowwww I cry!! So many people I know just loved Name of the Wind to pieces and I tried so hard to get into it….I just couldn’t. And I made it almost to the end of Red Queen but I just didn’t care AT ALL and I wanted to sleep or bang my head against a wall every time I picked it up so I DNF’d with like 30 pages to go HAHAHAHAH #YOLO

  3. Haha great answers! Gemina was certainly a big surprise, it was such a CRAZY BOOK?? I don’t know if I will be over it someday, it was just…Crazy. I’m scared to read the sequel.
A Conjuring of Light was so, so good, such a fantastic ending to the series. I’m glad to see it on your list of favorites! 🙂
