My cats are adorable, I just had to put that out there.
I must say I am absolutely giddy with excitement. I can’t believe that this is actually happening. If anyone had come to me a year ago and told me that I would be a published author on my birthday this year, I would probably have scoffed. A year ago I was still trying to figure out what my dream was, my passion. I was trying to figure out what to do with my life.
Then, one day, it hit me. I know people say that, and it sounds cheesy and unrealistic, but I’m serious. I was sitting at work, when I remembered my childhood dream. I remembered writing daily journal entries, and starting stories and not finishing them because my sister found them and read them. Back then they were silly stories, since I was only twelve, and so she also laughed at them. That made me think that I didn’t have anything worthwhile to write. But then, later on, I pulled out my first journal, and read it. I expected to be embarrassed, or ashamed (we all know what sort of incriminating details we once put into our journals). To my surprise, however, I was neither of those things. I nearly peed my pants laughing so hard, and I had to share it with my sisters. They loved it. Now, we always go back and have reading sessions from that journal, and it never gets old.
And on that day (I don’t remember the exact date, so it isn’t a complete cliché), when I got home, I started writing. Literally. I had finally rediscovered the thing I loved. Now, the book I started writing that day is still in the works, as it is a long and complicated high fantasy novel. And then I heard about NaNoWriMo. National Novel Writing Month occurs every November. It is a challenge where an author, experienced or just starting out, sets a goal to write 50,000 words in 30 days. Basically a whole (short) book. It seemed unattainable, but I figured even losing couldn’t hurt. What I didn’t get at the time was that I could have used NaNoWriMo to work some more on my current book, so instead I started a new one, with no plan, and no direction. Now, I am publishing that very book, Oasis in the Clouds, on July 19th. Best birthday present, ever, I must say.
Oasis in the Clouds is the first book in my trilogy, When Worlds Collide, and will be available digitally on Kobo, Google Play, Apple iBooks, Barnes & Noble, and Amazon. Amazon will also be selling a paperback print copy of the book, so keep an eye out for that! Here is my book page, with all of the links. If you JUST CAN’T WAIT to get your hands on it, you can preorder it on all of the websites except Amazon. It may be a few days before it is up on all of the sites (B&N has a time frame of 1-10 days before it will show up).
