So Beth @ Reading Every Night did a rainbow colored books tag a little bit ago and I decided to steal it, because why talk about what’s in the books when you can be shallow like me and gush endlessly over the pretty that is the cover?!?!?
FIRST OF ALL.
Raise your hand if you have ever bought a book just because it looked pretty, the contents be damned? Yes, I’m looking at you, Bartholemew.*
We all do it.
In German there is a saying: “Das Auge isst mit” it roughly means, “Your eyes are eating too.”
Obviously books are not food.**
But you get the gist of it.
*That rhymed! Now give me some chocolate for my achievements.
**They might be?? WHO CAN KNOW. I have never eaten a book accidentally because I loved it…
Here I shall simply copy and paste the rules from Beth’s post, even though we know I am probably not going to follow them?? #rebel
- It must be the dominant colour of the cover not the spine!
- If you do not own a book of a certain colour, just choose one that has the colour on it somewhere.
- It has to be a book you own and/or has to be the exact edition you read (e.g. there are two different covers for Me Before You, you would choose the one you read).
- Tag some people to do it! Whether they be Bloggers, Bookstagrammers or BookTubers.
So first of all CROOKED KINGDOM WAS AMAZING* AND I LOVED IT AND LEIGH BARDUGO IS A WRITING DEMON WHO HITS ALL THE FEELS. But what I WASN’T expecting, was this gorgeous edition.
Spoiler: IT ALSO HAS RED SPRAYED PAGES.**
I gave this book ALL THE STARS. Because Matthias. And Kaz (SMOL BEAN WHO MUST BE PROTECTED AND NEEDS LOVE).
*And I thought it couldn’t get any better after Six of Crows! SILLY ME.
**Sprayed edges give me ACTUAL LIFE.
How could I not include a Harry Potter book in this tag??? Harry Potter was my childhood. I still remember sitting on a bed with my four other sisters* while my oldest sister read The Sorcerer’s Stone out loud to us. She also read ‘troll boogers’ and didn’t realise what the word was going to be and accidentally said ‘troll boooooooooogers’.
We all thought it was terribly hilarious because we are mature.
We still make fun of her for it**
To sum things up: HARRY POTTER IS GREAT. I LOVE HARRY POTTER. Also look at the pretty wand I got. It came with awesome Harry Potter glasses that I like to wear around the house. #noshame
*I KNOW THAT’S A LOT. And my mom actually wanted more??? 5 GIRLS IS TOO MANY OKAY.
**In case you were interested THIS HAPPENED A GOOD 7-8 YEARS AGO. But seriously what else are families even for if not to torture each other?
SADLY ENOUGH I do not own any books that are wholly yellow.
WHAT IS THIS CRUELTY. If anyone knows of ANY fantasy books that are completely yellow under the jacket and/or over…PLEASE TELL ME.*
That being said, Illuminae saved my life with its sort of yellow spine. SO BASK, BARTHOLEMEW, BASK.
Another perk is that Illuminae is an entirely wonderful book that will toy with your emotions to the point where you don’t know what’s real and what’s not.
SO GO READ IT.
*You may think I kid. I DO NOT KID ABOUT COLORFUL BOOKS. I must have them all!!
So Insurgent is the only green book I own. #awkward.
Why so awkward you ask?? Because I only found the books mediocre and despised the movies (I couldn’t get past the third one because was there even anything in there that happened in the book??? #no)
But on the bright side it is pretty!
I KNOW BIG SURPRISE THAT I AM MENTIONING STRANGE THE DREAMER….AGAIN.
But like… I can’t not??
It’s just so fabulous I cry.
And nothing beats the gorgeousness of this edition. NOTHING I TELL YOU. I can’t wait to see what they come up with for Muse of Nightmares!!
This beauty was one of the books that I ordered for my birthday! AND LOOK HOW PRETTY IS IT.
Don’t judge me if the spine is one of the main reasons I bought it.*
My lovely friend, Wing-Yee @ Bibliophilic Med Student kept posting pictures of The Traitor’s Kiss on bookstagram and I caved.* LOOK AT THE GORGEOUS PICTURE OF THE SPINE IN HER WRAP UP!!!
BONUS: It has good reviews, and Wing-Yee liked it too! (5!!!!! Stars!!!!!)
Confession: I haven’t read it because I just got it. Also I have no idea what it’s about but I accidentally read the first line of the synopsis. It has a girl who doesn’t want to get married. YOU GO GIRL.
Needless to say I am #EXCITE!
*who are we kidding we all know the spine is the ONLY reason I bought it…
**It’s not that hard to get me to cave. I am an extremely irresponsible adult. Am I even an adult?? WHO CAN KNOW.
Mechanica is an amazing steampunky retelling of Cinderella and it is centered wholly around strong friendships. WHICH I LOVE.
Why don’t we have more books about amazing friendships that don’t turn into romance???*
Basically you should all go read this!!
*What am I even saying. I LIVE FOR ROMANCE??? But friendship is also amazing????!?
So I’m supposed to tag people??? But instead I TAG ALL OF YOU (as always hahaha).
And that, my dears concludes my bookish rainbow! I hope you liked it! Did you see any books that you liked? Which ones?? Are there any on here that you want to try but you’re skeptical? Or did you hate some of them??? GIVE ME THE DIRT.
